How I Communicate

When I think of my communication style, the first word that comes to mind is “talker”.

Not only have I been told by loved ones about my gift of the gab, but I have come to recognize my talkative trait as I have grown older. You see, once my lips get to yapping and my hands start flying about with gestures, there’s no stopping my flow. I live for being caught in crazy, spontaneous moments and then recapping the story as only I can.

So, logically, being a talker has led me to my Broadcasting goals. The study of Communications seemed like a natural progression for me. I like to call myself a (mini) socialite – you know, minus all the wealth to afford the insane fashions. I’ve always been confident in communicating what it was that I wanted to say. Sometimes, I even talk to myself when I’m upset! I like to be the centre of attention –most of the time – and would like to consider myself the life of the party.

Now, don’t get me wrong, there are other words that come to mind regarding my communication style – like, “listener”.

What people say is actually important to me. I often joke about how I’m that girl at the bus stop, Weblocal Hospedagem or in the elevator, that seems to have the “Sure, I have nothing else going on in my life, why don’t you tell me about yours” sign on my forehead. My main group of girlfriends seek me for advice, and not each other. My mom picks up the telephone and finds something or another to lecture me about on Sunday afternoons. People simply like to talk to me, and I love to listen and advise where possible. At times, I’ve even listened to conversations which I weren’t meant to hear…but who hasn’t!

Speaking of conversations, did I mention that I enjoy them?

I partake in verbal ones on a daily basis, however with the advancement of technology today, my conversations are most often typed – or texted – or IM’d [insert smiley face here]. The art of communicating electronically is a talent which I am proud to say that I have mastered in recent years. Written communication is the best – and fastest – way for me to express my thoughts; whether I want to be concise or need to tap deep into my emotions, writing it down does the job.

When I’m not talking or listening or texting, I’m communicating through music. Nothing beats hearing that really great song that accurately conveys my feelings, lyric by lyric. My special guy and I have shared a love for music from the start. How sweet it is when he dedicates a song to me that almost speaks precisely to “us” and this thing we call “life”.

If I lived in a world without communication, I’d move.
